Read Supreme Court’s Decision: Travel Ban and the First Amendment

The Supreme Court ruled today Federal law grants broad discretion to a President to ban entry of aliens into the country. The Court concluded, therefore, that the President properly acted when he exercised such authority.

The Court also held that the President’s action did not violate the First Amendment Establishment Clause. The Establishment Clause states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.

Justice Center Filed Supreme Court Brief

Salt & Light Global’s Justice Center filed a Supreme Court amicus brief in this case.  In the brief we asked the Court to apply the plain meaning of the Clause when rendering its decision. The Court did so, rejecting improper interpretative schemes that insidiously lead to judicially-preferred political results, rather than constitutionally correct conclusions.
