On a bright day in Lansing, families, students, and leaders gathered on the Capitol steps to celebrate the vital role of parents in education and to stand united in defense of religious liberty. Among the speakers was Katherine Bussard, Executive Director of Salt & Light Global, who offered an encouraging message and heartfelt thanks to Michigan’s homeschool community.

Bussard began by sharing an update on the ongoing parental rights and religious liberty work led by Professor William Wagner, SLG’s Founder. She highlighted how, across the nation, Professor Wagner continues to engage in key legal and policy efforts to protect the fundamental right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children — and to preserve the freedom to live out faith in every sphere of life.

Turning to the homeschool families in attendance, Bussard expressed deep gratitude for their faithfulness to the Lord’s call. “Thank you,” she said, “for your obedience, for your perseverance, and for the daily investment you are making in the next generation.” She reminded them that their work — raising children to know and follow Christ — is both sacred and essential to the future of our nation.

“The freedoms we cherish — to train up our children and to freely share the Gospel from generation to generation — have always come through sacrifice,” Bussard said. “But the price is more than worth it, for the impact is eternal.”

Her words served as both encouragement and challenge: to continue standing firm in faith, to teach truth courageously, and to model steadfast hope in an age that often resists biblical values.

As the crowd of families prayed and sang together on the Capitol steps, the moment underscored what Salt & Light Global has long championed — that liberty and virtue are inseparable, and that the strength of our republic depends on families walking faithfully before God.

At Salt & Light Global, we remain committed to equipping and defending those who do just that — parents, pastors, and citizens who live out truth and pass it on to the next generation.
