Sphere Sovereignty
At the heart of this mission is the biblical idea of God’s Sovereignty—that He, as the creator and Supreme and Sovereign Ruler of all, is over all. Every realm or sphere of life, culture, and society are under His jurisdiction.
"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
- Colossians 1:16–17
Salt & Light Global takes the heart of Jesus to the culture.
We disciple servant leaders, equipping them to share His redemptive love and truth. We encourage the body of Christ to see all of who they are and what they do through the lens of God’s Word.
At the heart of this mission is the biblical idea of God’s Sovereignty—that He, as the creator and Supreme and Sovereign Ruler of all, is over all. Every realm or sphere of life, culture, and society are under His jurisdiction. As Christians, we recognize that He is the Sovereign Lord of our families and education programs, and that parents are entrusted with a special mission by God to raise their children in His ways (Deuteronomy 6:7). Christ is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18) and His Word speaks to how local churches should be governed (Titus 1). Scripture is also clear that earthly government is from Him, and under His authority (Daniel 2:21, Romans 13). Likewise, He is sovereign over the financial resources we steward (Mark 12:17, James 1:17, 1 Corinthians 12). Even what we communicate and listen to, whether through art, entertainment, or media, is governed by God and His Word (Ephesians 4:29, Colossians 4:6, Psalm 1). While this list is not exhaustive by any means, it illustrates the point of the old adage that “If Christ is not Lord of all in our life, then He is not Lord at all.” We must recognize and yield to Lord’s authority over everything if we are truly to call ourselves His followers, and following Jesus should transform every aspect of our lives.
This way of thinking about how the Sovereign Reign of the Lord over our life has many names. We refer to it as God Sovereignty, but others call it sphere sovereignty, and some might even attach the Seven Mountains teaching to the idea (referring specifically to how the Gospel applies to the “cultural-societal mountains of education, religion, family, business, government, arts, and media). However one may refer to it, how we respond to God’s authority in the different areas of life matters. He has charged us with executing His will, his way, in each of these areas. With this delegated responsibility, there also comes authority, and that human authority has a finite scope. Biblical ideas like justice, wise stewardship, good governance, and other key principles stem from this teaching.
