Justice Center Fighting for Life and Religous Freedom at US Supreme Court

The Justice Center continues to participate, on behalf of Christian people, in various cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fighting for Religous Freedom of Pro-Lifers

In our most recent submission, we just filed a Supreme Court amicus brief on behalf of Christian business owners. In this case, the Court decides whether the government may force pro-life Christian employers to violate their religious conscience. (e.g., by requiring them to provide abortifacients insurance coverage to their employees).  The current administration enacted religious/ moral allowances with which the Justice Center agrees.

Fighting to Overturn Roe v Wade

We also recently filed another brief in the U.S. Supreme Court asking the Court to overturn Roe v Wade – the diabolical decision judicially creating the “right” to kill a person’s son or daughter in utero.  In the alternative we asked the Court to uphold a pro-life law requiring abortion providers to hold local hospital privileges. In this case the Justice Center represented Right to Life.  Last week, Erin Mersino, the Justice Center’s Chief of Supreme Court Advocacy, attended oral arguments in this case with RTL’s Genevieve Marnon.  It was a great opportunity to serve as Salt & Light in the culture as we fought to protect life and religious freedom.

An Eyewitness Account

From Genevieve’s eyewitness experience, you can see why being Salt & Light is so important:

Being outside the Supreme Court while the justices heard oral arguments on the first abortion related case since Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch were seated was a very interesting experience. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I think I was thinking it would be more like the March for Life. I was wrong. *** [U]nlike the March, there were significantly more abortion supporters than prolifers. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I prayed. After about an hour, the ratio of proabortion to prolife individuals had increased. Where were my people? *** Across the street, facing the building stood a group of prolifers. I wondered why they didn’t come over to the other side of the street so we would have bigger numbers, but I quickly realized it was because they were blowing trumpets! Now these are not the kind of trumpets that kids play in band, these were Jericho trumpets. I was told by someone that they had come over from Jerusalem. *** Chants of “my body, my choice” were met with “protect women, protect life.” A huge prolife banner that read “96% of biologists agree that a human’s life begins at fertilization” was held high from the prolife corner, but proabortion protesters quickly stood in front of the sign and held signs like “keep abortion legal,” in order to block the prolife message *** We set of and did what we could by engaging any abortion supporter who would engage with us civilly. I managed to have three lengthy exchanges with individuals who think very differently than I do. I don’t know that I changed any minds, but I hope I planted some seeds.

Salt & Light Global continues to take the heart of Jesus to the culture and speak of Him in the public square.  What a privilege to do so this time at the U.S. Supreme Court.
