Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Martin Luther King Jr.
You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8
…Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matt 28:19-20
Last week Salt & Light Global joined Victory Missions in a good governance/ leadership global mission to South America. First in Colombia and then in Peru, Professor William Wagner and others met and conducted trainings with churches, business leaders, universities, and high ranking government officials. Upon arriving, citizens and officials in each country expressed deep concern over rampant corruption and diabolic social policy leading to moral decline. We met with Ministry of Justice and other Executive branch officials charged with enforcing “Human Rights” laws. We met with members of the legislative branch. We met with Supreme Court Justices and members of the judiciary. We met with the best and the brightest in academia. Seasoning the public dialog with truth, these meetings and trainings all focused on the value of Christian virtue in leadership and good governance.
Together we looked at law, liberty, and governance through two very different philosophical worldviews. Do humans discover law from an inviolable objective standard revealed in Divine/Natural Law? Or do we make up as we go, using a morally-relative, secular-progressive subjective model? Under the first approach to governance, truth exists, and it matters to God. Here good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust have objective reality. Conversely, under the second approach, truth does not exist, except as those in power deem it so. There is no good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust – except as those in power deem it so. During the trainings, we explored (in the context of corruption and LGBTQ social policy) the dangerous implications for good governance when a nation rejects objective truth for subjective moral relativism. While government systems vary from country to country, the battle for Truth and the rule of law is the same. Those defying the living God have a global strategy, we must as well. We equip the Church, therefore, to engage and lead institutions with integrity.
God is moving greatly among His people in Columbia and Peru. For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord… plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. As we help equip our Christian brothers and sisters in Peru and Colombia, please keep these faithful followers of Christ in your prayers as they engage their culture for the glory of God. Know that every victory they win in their country greatly helps us in our battles here in the United States.
