An Abundance of Rain

by

Graham Chapman

“Then Elijah said to Ahab, ‘Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.’ So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, ‘Go up now, look toward the sea.’ So he went up and looked, and said, ‘There is nothing.’ And seven times he said, ‘Go again.’ Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, ‘There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!’ So he said, ‘Go up, say to Ahab. “Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.”‘ Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain.” (1 Kings 18:41-45)

There had been no rain in the land for over three years. The people were suffering greatly. In the midst of the crisis, Father sent revelation to His servant Elijah that He was ready to send rain. As Elijah continued to pray, he sent his servant to look for the evidence of the coming promise. With his natural eyes the servant could not see anything, but Elijah knew God was going to send rain. Six times the servant went to look for evidence of the promise, and six times he saw nothing. Finally on the seventh try, a cloud the size of the man’s hand was rising out of the sea. What are we seeing as we pray? Are we looking with eyes of the Spirit? At the present time, the United States looks more and more like Nineveh than a city set on a hill, but what does God want us to see as we pray? We need to know. We need to be clear about God’s heart at this time, and we need to be carriers and releasers of what we see.May Father draw us near to His heart for our country. May Father renew us in His intention for His people and for this nation. May we be greatly encouraged by His love for us and His steadfast love for His people!
